The '03 and up Dodge trucks had the AAM rear axle with the Trac-rite (anti-spin). Their one tough unit but worthless if the truck is stuck and no forward motion. Example is One wheel sits on ice and spins and the other on pavement just sits there. The Trac-rite requires foward motion before it will engage. Like many owners have said its a great unit for leaving two long black marks on dry pavement.
I've towed for a living with one ton DRW trucks pulling heavy flatdeck trailers. Never had any issues wearing anything out from going around corners with OEM LS units from Ford/Dodge or GM trucks.
IMO too many off road folks apply their experience with off road equipment with large tire and small axle units. A G80 or the AAM 11.5" axle/OEM tires and wheels won't have any of those type issues unless the truck was abused.
My '01 Dodge/Cummins had the Trac-loc/Dana 70/stock tires and wheels. No issues.
Get a LS of some type. I won't buy a truck without it.
