Ditto on a lot of the other posts... enclosed trailer is what I'd recommend.
There's always a lot of sections of road re-construction, which are dirt/gravel.
Then there's inclement weather. Combine the two and the bike will get really messy.
Find a 6x12 used tandem axle trailer, use it, then sell it when you finish the trip.
