Get the limited slip. It makes an amazing difference in traction. The first vehicle I ever had with one was a Dodge 1500. It went better in the snow than any other 4 x 4 I'd ever driven. I never had any problems from the LS unit and I sold the truck with over 150,000 miles.
I currently have a Chevy with the G80 locking rear. It makes a huge difference in traction. My truck will go places in 2wd that other trucks with open diffs won't go in 4wd. I've never had any problems with the G80 either in over 190,000 miles.
I live in western VA where every road is twisting and turning up and down mountains.
