The only emission issue I've had on my truck in 6 years and 72k miles is a downstream NOX sensor that went bad. It didn't cause any noticeable performance issues, it just threw a code every few weeks after I cleared it. The replacement was about $250 from Amazon and it took me about 15 minutes to swap it out. If the front one goes that could be a pain to swap out just because the access looks tricky.
I use my truck as a daily driver and I only have a 5 mile commute which isn't ideal but it hasn't been a problem.
