Opinions from 4x4 dually owners on tires

My new truck (2001 Ford F350 Lariat 4x4, lifted with Bilstein air shocks) came with nearly brand new Yokohama Geolandar LT315/75R16 A/T-S tires. He pulled a toy hauler to the desert and the owner before him had a camper. These are too wide for my camper and I don't want to fabricate the swingouts, would you recommend going back to the original 235/85R16's or something wider? So far I've never remote camped, just campgrounds but now that I have a 4x4 who knows. Finding the truck I was looking for with 4x4 was a bonus. Thanks in advance.

  • I'm reading responses for duals...

And on edit... find that I missed the title. But think that he's meaning he has a SRW with wide tires???

That would be some awkward spacers.
  • Ummm am I reading you don't have swing out brackets? Or did you mean fabricating extensions, for the swing outs?
  • That's a lot of tire
    315/75R16 = 34.6"x12.4"R16
    235/85R16 = 31.7"x9.3"R16
Wondering, beside the difference dia , how space gained between rears? I assume these extend past fenders? If wheels offset supply space you'd only gain half the difference in width of outer tire (1 1/2"?)
I'm running 235s have about 1 1/2" space between and outer is just shy of fender width
  • I also ran stock tires on our dually and swing out brackets. Unless your camper is really wide, won't you need to have the swing out brackets? Will you have to change out the wheels if you go to a smaller tire?

    Good luck!

  • I have always run the stock tires on all my duallys, never had a problem with my swing out brackets. NO clearence issues.
  • A lot of guys go with super singles instead of dual tires. These may give you the clearance.
