From what I've seen of the 2015 F-150 order guide, it looks like Ford has dropped the rear end gears numerically on nearly all the models. What used to be equipped with a 3.55 is now a 3.31. What used to be 3.73's are now 3.55's. I have a feeling this is related to the weight loss. There is also a very real possibility that the transmission has been modified enough to warrant the gear swap.
I seriously doubt Ford would risk neutering their sales leader. Before everyone threatens to take their toys and go home, We'll have to see how the truck performs. I'm going to make a wild guess that the new 2015 will outperform the outgoing model.
