Axle ratio is less important with 6 (and more) speed transmissions—almost not important at all. Dealers almost always want to sell what’s on the lot, however, they also want to sell, so they’ll take an order if they have to. The key is to being willing to say NO and wait as long as it takes. The dealer knows that if you walk off the lot, there is only a 10% chance of making a sale. Used pickups maintain value so crazy that I’ve always had a problem buying used combined with not being able to get exactly what I want in options. Used trucks can be so high that you’re not saving anything. We ordered exactly the truck we wanted in November 2011 by spending 4 hours at the dealer, being willing to say NO, making a manager mad, and being willing to let him yell at us. On Monday, the general manager called us back and offered $800 below invoice, which of course, we took and ordered. We are soooo happy with getting exactly the options that we wanted.
