Hello all...I'm new to the forum and was hoping to obtain some technical help from those who may have had repairs to do themselves.
I have a 1996 Bigfoot 25C10-6B. truck camper. She's a big beastie and weighs in at 2400# dry. In September I was about to flush and sanitize my fresh water tank in preparation to head south later that month. During the process I discovered I had a water leak. I drained the water from the tank and eventually took off a bottom "skin " covering the tank. I'm sure someone had been there before me. The screws were rusted and had to be cut off. There was a "PEX" style compression ring on the tank outlet that had mot been crimped and I assumed that was the fault. I have had this camper for 4 years and it had not leaked prior to September. I did not have the crimping tool of that style. Others yes but not this one and they are not available for rent. I waited till they came on sale at my local hardware store and crimped the one and only ring. I put 6 gallons of HOT water into the tank which by now had a small residue of ice in the bottom of the tank. The ice promptly melted and I circulated some of the warm water via the pump. ....Still have a water leak in an area still covered with yet another bottom skin. Raised the front of the camper very high this time and drained all the water.
Since it is quite "fresh" this time of year I contemplated putting the camper in the truck and leaving even though I don't have water.
I also noticed there is some "furry" looking debris in the bottom of the fresh water tank floating around and that has to go. I'm sure its not a critter, Just debris.But it has to go... My question is: Has anyone needed to remove their water tank for any reason?. How to do it. The tank is suspended from above on 3 straps of some synthetic material I am unfamiliar with. I am hesitant to try to remove the tank even empty during the winter due to the age of the plastic fittings possibly being very brittle and just asking to shatter creating a real mess.... I sure would appreciate any pearls of wisdom from any experienced owners. I'm also not fond of lying on my back under the camper in my driveway at this time of year either.... Brrrrrrrr......
