I'm using 1" x 6" about 12" long in my tailgate opening. I nailed a 2x4 block on the back side and covered with astroturf. They are captured in position and have worked well. My dually has a much more narrow tailgate opening than the previous Ram SRW, only 2" total clearance. I was worried about crushing my power cord to the bumper plug in. Works well and keeps the camper off the truck.
