That is a nasty tick bite. Hope you get well soon and don't have Lyme disease. Agree, doesn't look like a normal tick bite but doesn't mean it's not. I used to pull ticks off our dogs regularly when I lived on Vancouver Island but never got bitten myself. Don't have them here on the mainland coast fortunately. Disgusting evil creatures.
If you know how they hunt their prey, it can help you from being bitten. They sense carbon dioxide from breath which is one reason they're often around a dog's head and neck. They sometimes move around their prey looking for thin skin to puncture. They sense ammonia so it's not a good idea to pee in great outdoors. They also sense heat, color & movement.
The little bast*rds even inject you with an anesthetic and you probably won't notice you've been bitten. If you or your pet get bitten, get it off NOW! Don't wait to go home for tweezers or to take your dog to a vet. Use tissue or TP and grab it close to the skin and carefully pull away, and try not to pop it. Ticks can carry a variety of serious diseases. Take steps to avoid getting bitten like wearing boots, pants and long sleeves where they are known to hang out (forests, tall grasses, etc.). Climate change is going to mean more of them out there too.
