Outdoor Griddle Heat Issue

Question

Just purchased our new RV with an outdoor slideout griddle underneath a small dorm fridge. The griddle slides out far enough so it will not melt the camper, but ran it per the instructions to "season" the griddle, and it was so hot in the back I was VERY afraid it was going to melt the dorm fridge door. I immediately turned it off so it did not melt. I am concerned on the heat, and at the very least, not sure this can be good for trying to keep items cold if it is heating up like that? Thinking of a heat shield or something, but just curious if anyone has had the issue and what you all did to work around it.

Interesting issue! A heat shield could never hurt IMO. Plus no RV is “over engineered” IMO.&nbsp;

^What he said. Dont ever assume things in a RV are “ok” or “right.” &nbsp;They require a good dose of common sense at a minimum in many ways.&nbsp;

it will, in all honestly, probably be fine, but you could always suspend a chunk of alumium sheeting about an inch off the back of the griddle to reflect heat back and act as a heat shield blocking the radiated heat.&nbsp; I had a 2006 wave that used to come with the RVQ that attaches to a track on the side of the trailer, I thought it was way to hot so I never used it there, but I did for a few times and it never hurt anything.&nbsp;&nbsp;

I had one on a TT and I ended up taking it off. &nbsp;I didn't trust it to stay on the side if I pushed down on burgers or something. &nbsp;So I just stored it and put it on a picnic table when I got where I was going. &nbsp;Didn't care for the grease splatter going on the camper either.
