Outdoor kitchen sink drain

Used our outdoor kitchen sink in our Reflection TT for the first time over the weekend and realized that it does not drain into a holding tank. It goes directly to a drain line on the opposite side of the trailer which means to use the sink, I either need to be hooked up to sewer or place a bucket under the outlet line to catch the gray water. Is this normal or is there usually a tank to catch the water for outdoor kitchens?

  • mine is hooked to the black tank also with no p trap it has one of those hepvo valves to save space and the smell coming thru that thing is attrocious going to cut it loose and run it in a bucket it is only rinse water
  • I like the idea of hooking it to a gray water tote. Been looking for an excuse to get one anyway. Thanks.
  • Ours drained to the black tank, and I modified it to do what you are describing. I didnt want all the water filling up the tank, so now it drains to a bucket and I dump it in the woods. Its just water we wash our hands in. Over a weekend though it adds up to 5 to 10 gallons. Over a week thats a lot of water going in to your black tank if you don't have full hookups. We dont camp where there is sewer so we have to watch what goes in
  • Seems strange but if nothing else get a gray water tote to set at the end of the line. At least that way you can use the sink when no hooked up to a drain. Something seems odd though. I just can't believe there is no tank on a new trailer considering how sensitive everyone is these days about dumping even gray water on the ground.
  • This seems odd but if you had to remove the cap to drain the sink is sounds like a straight shot so it does look like you will need to be hooked to sewer to use the sink.
  • I am not totally certain but am pretty sure there is no tank. This is a new trailer for us and was told by the dealer at the pdi that the valve by the drain would drain the tank. Makes sense right? I go to put water in the sink and it fills up automatically with water. Only way to drain the sink it is to open the drain valve at the rear of the trailer and the water in the outdoor kitchen sink goes down. I call the dealer and tallk to someone else he says that there is no tank for the outdoor kitchen. So maybe this is normal?? That's why I asked the question in the original post. Can't see anything under the trailer because of the enclosed underbelly.
  • Are you sure there is not a holding tank? It is likely there is a tank and the drain valve for the tank is in the open position.
If the sink water is flowing through an outlet with a sewer hose connection, then that is likely the drain for the tank, valve is open and water is just passing straight through.
  • The outlet for the outdoor kitchen sink is a normal sewer sized outlet. There are two grey water tanks and two tank monitors. There is a separate gray tank for the bathroom and the kitchen.
  • Our current trailer the sink goes to either the black or gray tank. Our previous trailer the sink had its own gray tank and we would mover the sewer hose over to drain it after we drain the black and other gray tank. Would be interest to hear more about your setup.
  • With my outdoor kitchen the sink drains into its own holding tank. What kind of outlet is it? Is it a standard sewer sized outlet or something smaller? Do you have two grey tank monitors in your service panel? My outlet is a sewer sized one with its own handle to pull to empty.
