outside storage, to cover or not to cover?

To cover or not to cover? that is my question.

I have come to grips with the fact that my TT will need to be stored outdoors this winter, indoor storage is just too expensive around here. Do I just winterize it, cover the tires and hope for the best? Should I invest in a full cover for the entire trailer (would only cost $400 at most).

something like this...

  • im finding heavy duty ones on amazon around $100 with good reviews, I may just roll with the tarp on the roof and overhanging a bit on the sides? still not sure

$100 20x40, eyelets every 18", seems like a good deal?
  • im in syracuse ny, lots of snow and where its stored i wont always be able to brush snow off of it. im okay with just doing a tarp on the roof but a full cover would nice.
  • I have never covered any of my trailers.

Before you buy one look at amazon to see if they can beat CW price.
  • Give it a fall bath and wax - if you have time, winterize, cover and in the spring you'll be ready to pull out of the driveway with almost nothing to do except dewinterize. AND.....IMHO it keeps your trailer looking much better. BTW, if - now that was a silly thing to say, WHEN they snow piles up, take a long handled brush and clean off what you can without bodily injury.
  • I cover the roof with a tarp that comes down the sides about 6". If you get snow and wish to remove it the snow will slide off the tarp much easier than the roof alone.
  • I don't cover ours. I winterize it and cover the tires. I've had to clear the snow off the roof a few times when we got a ton of snow. I was worried about the weight. The sides don't get snow on them so I don't see the advantage of covering the whole trailer.
  • Thanks for asking this question. I am wondering the same thing. And if I store my trailer outside, would it be prudent to cover the roof with a large tarp? We see snow for 4-5 months and I would like the extra protection, but will a tarp trap moisture are create mold and mildew on the roof top?
  • I have been covering mine for 10 years and wouldn't do it any other way.
If you want to keep it looking new, cover it.
