The way our ladder attaches is on the tailgate; it bolts onto the tailgate when it's down. The ladder is very sturdy and we like that set up.
I guess I wanted to keep the tailgate b/c it is A) sturdy, B) attachment point for ladder, C) protects the bottom of our TC from water/road debris.
