Overland Expo 2015: a view by an outsider

http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/the-crazy-camping-rigs-at-americas-richest-off-road-adv-1705279152
will get you to piece written by someone with sleek writing skills who knows nothing about what we do with our TC's (and back country RV's in general).
It's funny he did not go into the foul weather aspect and how it turned faint hearted wannabes into I wannouta heres. Makes me think he got outa Dodge before it started to snow.
I especially enjoyed the clickable comments.

  • I do visit that forum occasionally as there are some fun threads there...and a few real Expo travelers...
I do think there is a lot of confusion about going out in the woods 4 wheeling and actual expo travel.

    JMHO.

...depends...I think a lot of expeditioners operating 'domestically" in the Southwest only go out when its sunny and dry (a few here excluded) :B

....on the otherhand, Easterners have no good weather to speak of any time of the year. Site the Overland Expo East last October: a total mud fest on set-up day due to torrential rains (probably more rain in one day than the entire Southwest had all year LOL!). Then, we had a deep-freeze (see my photos in the thread on OE East) where my 3/4 empty cup of tea dregs froze inside the camper overnight (we easterners don't need no stinkin' heaters...LOL!) :E

OBXcamper, Billtex wha' da' ya' think?

Aye, Rick, me lad. I hear ya. Another thing; I occasionally go to the Expedition Portal site to see what kind of non-momentum they are up to now. I searched and searched to find ANY retrospective on ExPo 2015 and there was approaching zero mention. Are they trying to make those soggy memories go away?

I'm with jefe' on this. The lack of discussion there almost seems intentional. Keep in mind the "Expo" thing has spawned an entire industry. I see more farkled land rovers, dual sport bikes, and jeeps around that have never seen a dirt parking lot...never mind an expedition. Let's not forget titanium sporks, finely polished wooded camp "furniture" and cook systems that rival many high end homes.

Seems to me the powers that be on Expo Portal are trying to forget the whole "disaster"...those of us with TC's just keep doin' it...
    Last week on the "Golden Road" many miles in;

Edit; did not check in to hotel due to heavy rain.
  • mcc,
I searched snoverland and got one hit. A guy with a great Japanese truck cum telescoping Expo RV build. He took some great pix and had a fine narrative on his several week oddessy. Is there another search word i an use to find more info on OX2015? We were there in OX2013 with a wad of TC's and the weather was cool and windy with no precip.

  • In contrast, this weekend's NW Overland Expo in Washington will be 100+.
    I'm heading there tomorrow morning.

During Overland Expo and for a time thereafter there was a pretty lively discussion about what they were calling Snoverland Expo. No shortage of discussion on Expedition Portal at all.
