Overloading a pickup from time to time - a tradition?

We live in a semi rural area just outside a rapidly growing town. And see both farmers/ranchers with large round hay bails hanging on hay spikes off the back of severely sagging pickups and contractors with overloaded pickup beds or heavily loaded trailers again sagging the rear of their trucks. And of course, there is the occasional TT or 5er on a less than adequate truck, also sagging. Just normal everyday sights.
