You do not need to notify Walmart.
I know the thread is about rest areas, but FYI, here is the official WalMart policy from the FAQ on their web site:
"Can I park my RV at a Walmart store?
While we do not offer electrical service or accommodations typically necessary for RV customers, Walmart values RV travelers and considers them among our best customers. Consequently, we do permit RV parking on our store parking lots as we are able. Permission to park is extended by individual store managers, based on availability of parking space and local laws. Please contact management in each store to ensure accommodations before parking your RV."
I'd ask someone in the store if I didn't see any other RVs out there, but any time I've stayed at one (which is only a handful of times) there have been multiple RVs and tractor trailers in the lot when I pulled in at some point after midnight.
I have seen some Walmarts that just have a sign in the lot that says no overnight parking.
