Ah......where do I start. The buyer of a TC needs to do their homework. Regarding the TC manufacturer and dealer and weights and "it will fit your truck just fine", the Russian phrase Doveryay, no proveryay (Trust But Verify) comes to mind.
My Tundra is overloaded. I know Toyota trucks and how well, and overbuilt, they are. So, I'm ok with being overloaded. I added air bags and 10-ply tires and I'm ok with being overloaded. The engine has more than enough power and the brakes more than enough stopping ability and yes, even during panic stops. The cornering is great. I've used my Tundra and TC off road a lot. No issues. Did I mention that I'm overloaded?
I hauled 1500-1600 pounds of water every other day in my 1989 Toyota Xtracab for years. It's an old version of the Tacoma. I had air bags on it and 10-ply tires. That truck has over 200,000 miles now and is doing just fine.
The safest thing to do is to buy a 1-ton dually to haul a pop-up camper. ;)
