We just went through the same thing, sans Patriot Act Bull#@$&, when we bought our jeep. At least the same thing as mentioned in the article. I didn't find out until we got into the finance office when they handed me my credit report. I couldn't figure out WHY they ran my credit report when we were paying with a check. My only logic for it was that they wanted to make sure they could come after me if the check bounced. But, now I see that they are supposed to ask my permission first, which they didn't (we bought in MD). At least we don't have to go through that again for another 5 years...
