I ran into great difficulty today on photobucket. Adware galore on it's pages. Did it get hacked?The past few weeks thought I noticed pop-ups to install Adobe Flash Player 12.2. I kept ignoring. Finally agreed today as I thought it was legit. Internet search hijack and adware all over. Did a PC scan with my Microsoft Security Essentials (the free anti-virus I use) and cleaned a malware ref ads.The bulk of my pages load and act fine now but Photobucket is still wacko. Anybody else notice this? If I can't figure it out I'll be stopping daily resto-mod posts until Photobucket is back to normal.

I had a similar problem ... believe it or not ... with RV.net yesterday. My son, who is a little more of a computer guru than I am, told me when clicking on those apparent 'ads', code is actually embedded in the browser, and when landing on certain web pages, they pop-up in the middle of the page. Mine was attacked on Firefox, and only on RV.net. My son figured out it out and un-installed the program and code that caused the problem. He said, one way to get rid of the imbedded code was to delete Firefox completely and re-install it. This type of code (for this stupid dumb A** advertising) attacks specific browser. So if you switch to a different browser, it will probably work just fine. Try that.

I use Chrome with the adblock extension so I'm not sure how many ads were there before, but I just visited photobucket and see that it blocked 12 ads on the main page and the same when I looked at one of my photos.

I'm not too sure what all you both meant but I moved away from Internet Explorer to Chrome for this very reason. I don't want to move to another browser now (Firefox). Every time you change browsers there's a learning curve that irritates me. And there's the learning curve thing too with the ad management settings for any given page or browser. :/Anyway thanks. I'll see how it pans out over time.

I've been using Chrome for a while and have been having similar problems with PB for at least 6 months...every time I go to the home page, some adware opens another tab on the browser behind PB. I don't think there is any malware there, they are just squeezing the nickel as hard as they can before they have to charging users a monthly fee. Or setting the stage to offer an "ad-free" version for $x/mo.

In my case I was just giving you a count on the ads I was seeing in hopes of giving you a baseline as to whether your machine is showing more or not.

Are you sure it was "Adobe Flash Player 12.2" and not "Media Player 12.2"? There is a well-known adware installer called "Media Player". It got my father's computer too. It affects Windows machines. This link appears to be legit and has instructions for removing it.

FYI, any link that asks you to install a "cleaner" program is NOT to be trusted and can get you even deeper into virus / adware hell.

Been running Adblock plus and Ghostery on my Firefox installs for years now, solves all ad related problems :), and also does a fine job of blocking malicious ad software.

About 2 years ago or so, Google went over to the Dark Side. The difference between Chrome and any other browser is that Chrome is written and provided by the largest (by far) internet advertising agency on the planet. They are not above using their many arms to help their ad business, for example gmail is scanned to target advertising by adclick (both Google properties). Advertising accounted for 90% of Google's $55B revenue in 2013. Good thing I have my tin foil hat on.

I just logged in to PB- pretty much the same as far as I can see. Yesterday they were working on the server or site so some issues. Seems ok now..Im using IE 9 on my ol shop Vista machine,

only issue other than the video adds is the peacekeeper pop up when I first sign on. If a site says my software is out of date for the content-sometimes Ill look into it though NEVER click on any pop ups from that or any other site. Adobe updates independent of any web site.

Chrome is one of the safest web browsers out there (better than free Firefox; the one I use)....but nothing is free in life! However, what would Google Corporation gain by giving away their free web browser, ask yourself !
