This statement is absolutely true.....IF the trailer would be extended a great distance from the tow vehicle. We are talking about inches here, maybe three or four at the most, so this small distance will have an almost immeasurable affect.
Basic leverage and the effect on the hitch receiver. If 400 pounds is applied one foot from the hitch and the same 400 pounds is applied two feet from the hitch, what is the resultant force applied to the receiver hitch? Double. In other words, it would be like increasing the load to 800 pounds at the original location.
