I think the fake sound is a crazy idea. If the automakers wanted to go down that path, they would include fake sound on the outside as well so others could hear the V8 rumble.

My Chevy, like many other newer vehicles today, has the electronically generated turn signal clicking sound that plays through one of the radio speakers (no more clicking from the flasher unit). The speaker has a loose wire or short, so sometimes you hear the turn signals and sometimes you do not. Maybe that's what will happen a few years down the road with these fake V8 rumble sounds as well.
