Pleasant surprise

I pulled my Jayco about 150 miles or so on Sunday and back the 150 miles this afternoon. I don't know how accurate the onboard mileage computers are but mine said that I was getting a little over 12 mpg towing each way. It was reading 21 to 23 mpg empty. I just bought it recently and can't believe the mileage. The best I could get towing with the Cummins was 10.5 mpg towing and 19 mpg empty. This Powerstroke is sweet.

  • Congrats on the new truck. MPG doesn't mean squat from a lieometer however.
  • Most likely a non DEF 6.7 Cummins truck. They were to good for mileage. Chris

My Cummins gets what your PS is getting easily. What was the gearing of each truck respectively? What year Ram did you have? Just curious.

That sounds like pretty good mileage. I like to include enough miles to include a dpf regeneration before getting too excited about mileage. Mine has 3.55 gears and doesn't do as well as you're experiencing but my guess is that you have 3.31 gears? I think you'll find the computer generated mileage numbers to be very accurate.
  • Not to piss on your parade, but what was wrong with your Cummins? I routinely get 22 on the highway at 70+ mph empty and between 11-12.5 towing my 32 foot 9500lbs Jayco.

My good friend is getting comparable numbers with his 2016 F350, a little better towing because he has a small, light and lower profile hybrid.
