Please help... im not sure what to do

I appologize beforehand.. I know that i seem to do more worrying then maybe one should. I need this camper to last me a very long time..and unfortuntly i cant afford right now to pay dealer to do alot of work that maybe i can do myself... im uploading some pics of my slide. I noticed a screw missing from the bottom trim on the side of the slide. i had to take off a couple of the screws just to get this one screw in... im confused now..If you look at some of these pictures, when the trim is loose you can see the sidewall of the slide and the laminated wood under the fiberglass... when i tighten the screws down you can still see some of this wood under the trim.. im not sure how i would stop water from hitting that when it rains..
I dont want to be facing delamination in the future.. this seems like a bad design here. Should i bring this to my dealer to look at? it seems odd that the wood is exposed like that with only the trim over it.. there is no silicone underneath the trim on either side of the slide, and im not sure if a bead of silicone will even stick to that darco tape on bottom of slide out..thanks for reading..im really worried... camper only two years old but out of warranty.

  • Maybe get it "snugged" up as tight as you can by adding a couple more screws and then cover the entire joint top to bottom with a strip of Eternabond Tape...4" size.
  • i would take the trim off completely and seal it with an outdoor caulk. then reinstall the trim so it the caulking gets sandwiched between the trim, the side panel and the backing. i would think that would seal it pretty well.

make sure its all dry before you do this though and clean everything with rubbing alcohol so the caulk sticks good.
  • as you can see the first pic is the trim loose..the second is it screwed down, you can still see some of the laminated wood that has the fiberglass attached to it.
