Polished or Powder-coated FastGuns

Should a guy go with the polished fastguns or the powder coated ones? Polished is cheaper and I wonder how the powder coated ones will stand up. Would like the black ones but?...

The Powder-coat on my SuperHitch and frame mounted tie-downs was chipped up in shipping as the paper they wrap them in isn't thick enough to protect them. I wonder if the tie-downs wouldn't end up the same way?
  • Make sure you buy locks to go with whatever you get. Thieves like shiny things. I went with the black, coated style. It's much thicker than the powder coating that they apply to their tie downs.
  • Glad to hear that the fastgun powder coat is better than the SuperHitch and frame mounted tiedowns. I was a bit disappointed in the poor finish on them which is why I had some concern. Thanks for the input.
  • I have the polished units. I haven't noticed any glare or reflection in my mirrors. Powder coating is very durable, but it can be scratched or chipped. Other than touch-up paint, or, possibly, a light buffing using a very light compound/abrasive, you can't repair powder coating. I went with the polished because it's easy to rejuvenate the luster using a buffing wheel. Light scratches can be sanded out and re-buffed. Very little effort is required to make them look new. Plus, I like shiny stuff and the polished goes well with my truck's chrome. Mainly, I'd say aesthetics played the biggest role in my decision. Cost difference wasn't a consideration.
P.S. As a side note, the powder coat on one of my rear TorkLift tie-down brackets has been cooked/melted by my exhaust. Rust has ensued. I'm not surprised. The front brackets remain on the truck (they're not kneecap-busters like the rears) and still look good (enough), after 15,000 miles.
  • I purchased polished because that's what was in stock at the time. Now I have dirt-coated.
  • I ordered polished and received powder coated. I returned the powder coated on the seller's dime and got the polished I wanted.

My son has a set of powdered coated Derringers and they are holding up quite well.

Same here except mine are coming up on 8 years.

    X2

The coated finish is holding up well. (Black Hammertone)
Had mine for 2 years in Cali sun. Quick rinse off of dust off and they look like new.

  • When I bought mine they were polished. After the first trip I painted the with epoxy paint because they reflected every white line into my outside mirror which was very distracting.
