I bought my truck in '07 before the #%*$ hit the fan in the economy. My plan was to buy a dually because I would soon be shopping for a 5er and didn't want to be too limited by my truck. I had a 3/4 ton diesel which was more than enough for my trailer at the time. Right after I bought the truck, the economy tanked, so the fifth wheel had to wait. And wait it did, until this spring. Though it took a few years, I'm glad I bought the extra muscle at the time, because it made the fifth wheel choice easier knowing I had the truck to handle anything we were looking at. So, yes, it's good to go bigger if you can swing it. The flip side is that this truck is not what you'd call a commuter vehicle or grocery getter. I have a second car that I use to do those tasks. So it is an additional expense to be considered if you're going to buy a large truck. The towing platform of the dually is a strong consideration as well. The stability factor definitely eases the white knuckle effect.
