LOL... And a DRW truck. I got a laugh yesterday when I saw a DRW truck pulling a camper that just about any .5 ton truck could easily pull.
Not that I have an RV trailer any more. I used to pull said 5500-7000 lbs overall weight depending upon how it was loaded with a 3500 SW truck. Yeah i could have pulled it with a .5 truck......but, lets add 2 adults, 4 teenage adult sized children that weigh a total of 1200-1300 lbs bewtween the 6, 750 lbs of HW from the trailer, a 150 lbs ladder rack, cross bed tool box with tools etc totaling 300-400 lbs. A canoe on the rack, Bikes in bed with paddles etc for canoe. At times, two 125 lb alaskan malamutes in crates in the bed......That is 3000 lbs added to the base weight of a given truck! WHAT .5 ton twuck will handle that, along with 6000 lbs of trailer behind it? I only know of one, that is discontinued, ie the GM 1500HD which was an 8600 gvwr 8lug badged rig when the 2500HD was brought out......
OR< the owner like myself, hauled a 12K equipment trailer around on weekdays, smaller RV trailer on weekends and vacations......speced the heavier truck for work, used it in a lighter duty setup, when personal useage was done......
This is just one reason why someone might tow a smaller RV, tent trailer etal with a larger rig!
