Portable propane grill with a griddle

Any suggestions on a Propane grill that has a griddle instead of the grill? I know the Q1000 has an accessories for a griddle but can only get it for one side.
  • The Road Trip grill is TERRIBLE. Lousy as a BBQ, annoying accessories, a pain to clean up etc.
We had the "Paul Jr" for a year with all the add on's and the wheeled bag. Now we have a Weber Q100 with the 2/3 Griddle. Cooks like a $300 stove, BBQ's, attaches to TT propanes supply with a couple common fittings. Best of all, it cleans up in seconds, and a windy day does screw it up like the Coleman. I am constantly surprised when folks say good things about that thing.

Put it this way, if you think the Coleman is a 10, you'll find the Weber is a 20!
  • I should add, no ability to cook a whole potato, a small dutch oven, or even foil wrapped veggies under the Coleman lid. Griddle is split, slides around and rattles. The stand requires a perfectly level surface, the grease trap is truly a trap.
Only good thing about it is powerful burners, and they only work well when the wind cooperates, as there is NO shielding. ANd because the lack of shielding and depth, pretty much you end up with 2 round hot spots.
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We went with the Weber Q 1000 for several reasons. Light weight 25#, reasonable cooking service 189 sqft, price $109.00 on sale.
When compared to the Coleman Road Trip that has the stand the Coleman weighed almost 50# almost twice as much.

For me the extra cooking area for the Coleman did not justify the added extra weight for the stand. Also with the Q it seemed it would be easier to pull out and set up on table. Looking at the burner on the Q it appeared that the way it was designed it would not create any cold spots throughout the cooking area.

We found Wal-Mart had the Q for 109.00 when regular price was 169.00. The money we saved we could get the griddle for the Q and if we feel that a stand is really need we could get it at a later time.

    Thanks again.
  • Nice choice. I hope it serves you well. NOW,, on to some great Q'ing.:)
  • I agree the Weber Q's cooks better. It is a bit more rugged and holds the heat well.
However I still went with a coleman for the convenience. I agree the Coleman does not work quite as well but It has a stand and interchangeable cook tops. For me its all about the convenience.
Having a built in stand is the first reason for choosing the Roadtrip.
The Q can easily be placed on the picnic table if the site has one, or you can set up a folding table.
With the roadtrip I don't need set up or find/hope there is a picnic table.
I can use the griddle in the morning for breakfast and put the grates on for lunch and dinner. I also have a burner grate that allows me to put a pot or pan on the Coleman and use it like a stove.
I have a hose and fittings to connect to the on board LP, which keeps everything
simple. All I need is the Roadtrip which has its own stand and side tables built in. No need for anything else. That no need for anything else is what led me to buy the Coleman.

Lastly I haven't found a grill that isn't a pain to clean. With the roadtrip I use foil on the grates and wipe it down when done using it. Not perfect, but as wipe it down it stays fairly clean.
I also have the large wheeled duffle bag that keeps the grill secured from critters.
I know there are many who swear by their Weber Q's. I agree the Weber is a decent grill, I just chose the Coleman for the convenience.
  • I use a coleman propane skillet. Good to go for compact on the go sausage and peppers, eggs, pancakes, ect.

I use it mainly for bacon!

A year of unevenly cooked food and tooth-brushing bacon fat out of the bottom drove me over the edge. lol

Don't forget to get the full width Cast Iron griddle attachment
    griddle.
It is a PRIMO cooking device, drill a hole in in that lines up with the grease trap so it drains into the foil trays. I keep ours in a heavy plastic bin, and I flip it over and set the bin upside down as a stand. No mess, works good. ENJOY!
