The difference is night and day.
Yeah, same thing with tuning. Most people have only driven stock vehicles or canned tunes with a generic tune meant for the needs of many people and various situations. They don't understand that if you are not towing then you can actually run a higher powered tune without harming the engine. They don't know that one of the main reasons (after emissions of course) that a diesel's power numbers are what they are is due to keeping EGT's in check when towing, but you can increase power at the flip of a switch when not towing while still being well within safe parameters. They have never had a transmission that shifted at the exact rpm or speed that they want to all the time. They don't know what it is like to have the fuel map of your truck altered to get more power and torque earlier than stock when towing and later when you want performance. They can't fathom the idea that you can have the throttle pedal adjusted to how you want it to respond. They think that custom tuning only applies to the engine or transmission and that you can alter many other things about the truck especially today's trucks with exhaust brakes and active air intakes.
I guess for those people ignorance is bliss because I would bet that if they did know how it feels like then they would probably be spending the money to custom tune every one of their trucks like I have done to my vehicles since the late 90's.
