Position of propane regulator - facing forward or back

I have a Keystone Springdale and I had cause to remove my propane cylinders for refill and when I reinstalled them, I thought I had maybe positioned the regulator backwards. It looked like the regula...

The same person installs the regulator that designs most campers, a non-camper. I wonder how few RV's actually get field tested by the factory? Its a wonder they don't put the regulator under the tanks so that one would have to lay on the ground to check them.
