Now that the Duramax history lesson is complete(LINK), onto the Powerstroke starting with the one that started it all. The venerable 7.3L.

I will update this as the rest of the engines get posted.

POWER STROKE HISTORY, LESSON 1: 7.3L

    Enjoy!

    What about the 6.9?
  • Thanks ShinerBock.
I have been in love with my truck since 2002.
With a few mods she is making about 300 hp, maybe a little more. Enough to feel capable, but not too much to stress the engine. She feels like a hot rod.
  • 7.3 was a great motor. Now let's talk early Powerstroke 6.0....but not to my brother who traded his 7.3 for a 6.0. BIG mistake and it turned him into a Ford hater.....:M
  • My dad has a 2000 7.3 that only has about 110,000 miles on it. He's had to do some work on it but nothing unexpected for a 20 year old truck, and overall it's been very reliable. It's super loud and with the front leafs has a horrible turning radius and it rides like a hay wagon. He says he's keeping it until one of them dies. He's in 80s now so things are looking promising for the truck.
  • 2000 F-350 7.3 PSD 245,000 miles. It tows a 11,000 lb 5er. Same transmission, 1 water pump, 2 altanators, misc front end work, rear wheel seals, both front hubs. It has a Banks chip since 30,000 and I will drive it until the wheels falls and then put on new wheels and go on down the road
  • Thanks for sharing. I kept my old 7.3's, have one in a Excursion and another in a F-250. The old things have been as reliable as a anvil. The truck has 255k and the X has 160k miles. While underpowered by today's standards they get the job done. The manual transmission truck does 21 mpg solo highway and the automatic transmission X does 17mpg solo.
  • People loved that 7.3 I guess when you look at the rest of the stable it was their “best” motor...V8, heui injection, glow plugs, no attributes of a decent diesel in my book. Before the crowd piles on I owned both a 7.3 and 6.0
