Premium Price for a Premium Whole Rig Rental

Airstream2Go.com

A matched pair of their rigs showed up during our second night of camping over the weekend. The internet was pretty slow at the CG, so I waited until getting home to check their website.

Roughly $1,000 per day for both the Airstream and matching Yukon tow vehicle.

Reading through some of the details, it looks like a really well thought out operation. Loaning folks an iPad pre-loaded with How-to videos is one such example.

The founder spent some time as the President and CEO of Airstream.

  • And I use to think paying $1,200 a week for a class c was high...
  • From thier website:

What type of insurance is offered?
Your Airstream 2 Go experience is insured just like it would be if you were to rent a car from a national car-rental agency. It all depends on your particular automobile insurance policy and restrictions, which you need to check before embarking on your rental. Airstream 2 Go strongly recommends that you select the Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) policy offered to us exclusively by MBA Insurance. This provides you with $1 million of liability insurance coverage for a fee of $70 per day. We also offer a Collision Damage Waiver for $50 per day, which transfers the risk of collision damage back to Airstream 2 Go. All designed to provide you with peace of mind during your Airstream 2 Go journey.

Who knows what they consider "wear and tear". Dings and scratches may not be included in the collision waiver.
  • Those are nice. But at those prices, they could have bought a trailer and sold it later for less!

Well, if you are the type that only does the 1 week vacation per year, then it's alot cheaper than owning both these things.

I'm sure though, that newbies do a fair bit of damage. I wonder how they assess those costs? Surely there is extra cost insurance to buy.

At $1000 a day, and for a 14 day rental, at over $13,000, I think the cost of damage is included.

  • Looks like a pretty clever idea. The way the economy is headed there are more and more folks at the top of the heap with money to burn and no time to do their own planning and prep work.

Wonder if they include a copy of "RV" with Robin Williams on the iPad!
