Prepping the Kia for serious towing

I didn't see the 7 way plug, maybe he's got it tucked up under the plastic bumper?
  • I've heard of the Borrego! Didn't they only put it out that one year?

I think that was the last body-on-framer Kia/Hyundai ever put out. Too bad they abandoned production...

The first-gen (pre Hyundai) Sportage was the Borrego's little brother, design-wise. Modified ladder frame, real skid plate, wheel bearings that would put a truck to shame...those were the days!
  • There is a Kia that can tow a decent load. I had a 2009 Borrego with V8 and trailer tow package. Nice SUV built on a truck frame. Now it's got 65k+ miles and going strong.
  • As others have said, probably for a bike or other type of carrier. Actually it looks like a 1.25 to 2". We just bought a 2" receiver for our CRV, only $5 more than the smaller one, cheaper than an adapter and more versatile.

x2, that's what I use mine for or for pulling my blue tank to the dump tank. I have had people ask me what I pull with my Corolla when they see the 1" receiver.

yep, some folks questioned me putting the 2 inch receiver on the back of my VUe but I pointed out that since all my bike racks, etc., were 2 inch and the receiver didn't cost as much more as an adapter to 2 inches. looks to me that had the small hitch with an adapter up to 2 inches.

  • Kia hasn't built a decent tow vehicle since the first-gen Sportage. Production ended in 2002. All since then are girlycars! :B

    P.S.:

    60,000 tow miles and counting...;)
