Price of Diesel Coming Down

As a potential future owner of a diesel vehicle, I have been watching diesel prices (relative to gasoline prices) fall in Northern California. I just checked with the California Energy Commission website (clicky) that reports the average cost of fuel:

5/27/2013 California, average cost of regular : $4.022
5/29/2013 Northern California, average cost of diesel: $3.932

Isn't it remarkable that at least for the time being, diesel is cheaper than regular? Wonder what is going on here? Is this a harbinger of a long-term trend?

  • It was cheaper than regular in west CA when we were out there last year. Lone Pine and so on. Even at Death Valley. Just to make you feel better it's running around $3.60 in Orlando which could in no way be considered a cheap fuel area nationally. It's 3.82 or so up here in North Florida.
