Last September we bought a new 2016 F-150 XLT 4x4 3.5 EB SuperCrew 5.5' box. We paid $10,000 difference between our Honda Ridgeline trade-in and the cost of the new truck. It worked out to about $39,000, give or take (they gave us $29,000 for the 2 year old Honda). I've been looking casually at 4x4 truck prices for years, and they didn't just jump in the last couple of years... they've been pretty outrageous for a long time now. SUV prices are ugly too.
2wd aren't as pricey, but I wanted/needed the 4x4 because we actually have winter and my last 2wd left me stuck at home more than once in the 14 years I drove it. Plus it's nice when out exploring from camp somewhere in the Rocky Mountain west to not be stopped every time we hit a rough stretch on a back road. :B
