Jan 24, 2017The price of all trucks are going up new and used. Pickups are becoming more and more popular while fuel prices are cheaper. The top 3 best selling vehicles right now are all pickup trucks (F-Series, Silverado, RAM). Manufacturers have seen this and for years have raised prices little by little. I remember reading a while ago that on average Ford clears something like $14k on every F-150 sold and they sell a lot of them. They are truly cash cows for manufacturers.
As the prices go higher on new, more look to the used market which drives up the price of used trucks. At the turn of the century you could buy a fairly new, 2 year old mid optioned gas truck for around $8k-$12k. I can sell my 9 year old RAM around that amount today which crazy. The price between new and gently used is becoming blurred. You can go to the dealer and negotiate a new Cummins pretty close to the price people are asking for their 3 year old used ones.
