At least the pickups are still available in all configurations.
We need a large SUV (3 rows of seats) for our family and to tow a large TT. Currently we use a 2002 Suburban K2500 with 8.1L V8. In 2002 it cost $51K new, loaded with every possible option. I bought it when it was one year old and had 4700 miles on it for $32K (long story but it was a GM repurchase due to problems with the AC system).
Now it has 180K miles on it and was rusting (rocker panels).
There has been no diesel Suburban since 2000. In 2006 they dropped the 8.1L big-block.
I looked at the new Suburbans. A loaded model like mine is about $80K MSRP!! To make things worse, this is for a 1/2 ton model. No more 3/4 ton Suburbans!
I paid a body shop $6K to repair rust damage (I live near Buffalo,NY) and I just replaced the fuel lines, fuel pump, and brake lines myself. My Sub will have to keep going for a few more years. After that I may look for a rust-free 2001-2005 K2500 like mine from a southern or west state.
It's hard to imagine paying near $80K for a vehicle that will rust out in front of your eyes over a period of years.
