Steve - I feel your pain. :( My 2005 Avalanche now has 210,000 km (125,000 miles) on it and although I did have the transmission rebuilt last summer it otherwise runs really well, tows our 4500 lb travel trailer without issue. :B The problem is the body is now rotting out in several locations on the rear panels ... I'm torn as to what to do about as it looks like heck but spending thousands $$$$ to repair it won't make it tow any better. I have no body repair experience at all but the only alternative I can think of is to just do what I can myself ... wish I had your fortitude to just spend the $$$$ and get it fixed right yet with no guarantee it won't rot out again. :R
