Oil companies rule the World and they don't want to disclosure too much, but common knowledge is that from crude you can produce XX % of diesel and YY % of gasoline.
When diesel priced drop, that would make me thinking that with slow economy the trucking is not using much of diesel, while personal cars still use good amount of gasoline.
In Europe most of cars drive on diesel or propane. Somehow they manage to sell propane for 1/3 price of gasoline.
Compare that ratio in US.
