The trick is to find the "real" MSRP. Those dealers that provide 40% probably have inflated the MSRP to start with. When negotiating a price on our 2014 Cougar I received 4 quotes from factory authorized dealers. These quotes all used the same "retail factory sheet" so I could follow their pricing accurately. 25 to 30% was the average discount.
Dealer location (and service) can be critical so don't bypass your local dealer to save a few dollars. You could eat that up quickly in transportation costs for warranty work.
Be polite and upfront with the dealers and they will work with you.
