Do you use any kind of a lubricant on the hitch ball?

I lube mine about every trip. I wipe the ball off and put new lube on and when I get to where we are camping I slit a tennis ball 2 inches on one side and slip it over the ball. Keeps it clean. I have been doing it this way for over 55 yrs towing and very little wear on any of the different balls that I have used
