Propane Fire in a Trailer

just a reminder regarding propane safety. this happened to a family friend who was an experienced RVer

https://www.google.ca/search?q=long+reach+fire+department+propane-tank-explosion-1.4245664&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiJ_ar3x5rWAhVG5yYKHcZoBCUQsAQIUA&biw=1280&bih=660#imgrc=eklYHXFCqVv7TM:&spf=1505044596269

according to the family, the fire occurred when lighting the oven in the trailer. that's all I know.

there is an image of the tt on fire, the tanks are clearly visible and are NOT on fire

If you open the oven and smell propane, the quickest way to clear it is simply toss in a lit match. You might even get a Darwin Award.
  • Your link is a bit confusing. The one image of the small TT was your friends', correct? Not the image with the headline that the couple died?

Either way, it's a scary thing. I try to remember this every time I light my stove, oven, fridge, water heater. But it's easy to miss a sign if you're operating on habit (like those times you got to work and didn't remember going past a familiar sign or building).

I hope your friends are OK.
  • We were lucky during our last TC outing over Labor day. We drove for 2 hours with a stove top burner valve in the light position. We even had the fridge running on propane.
