Propane Regulator Noise

Replaced our old propane regulator on our travel trailer a month or so ago. I now notice a small whistling sound coming from the new one when a propane appliance is in use. Did not notice this with the old one.

Is this normal or dangerous?

  • When my old Marshall regulator stopped working I put on a Camco. It whistled. :M I replaced it with a new Marshall. It doesn't whistle. :)
  • Ours grunts, doesn't whistle. It only happens with our trailer, never when I'm brewing beer or boiling water for corn or frying a turkey.
  • My previous camper (Springdale) and my current camper (Outback), both made the whistle sound when the furnace runs. I've gotten use to it and just ignore it now. I have noticed, when the propane tank gets close to empty, it's doesn't whistle any more. I kind of listen for that now (especially in colder weather), as it's an indicator my propane bottle is nearing empty. I run only 1 bottle at a time, keep the second turned off at the tank valve. I never use the automatic switch over. I've never run out of propane this way either. Always get it refilled as soon as I know one side is empty.

Yea, I think that whistle, winey sound is normal.

I recently installed a new one, as well. And guess what? It whistles too.

But usually only under heavy demand.........hot water tank with the fridge will do it.

Dangerous? Leaking propane is dangerous. Mine is NOT leaking.
