Proper portable generator to run a Jayco X17Z?

Hi, Folks. We have a 2014 Jayco X17Z, and it does not have a generator on-board. I'm looking for an appropriate portable generator to simply run the heater, lights and fridge in the event we lose power in the house this winter. I was told 2000 watts should cover it? I'm looking to cap spending on this to $1,000. Any suggestions as to make and model would be appreciated. There's a Yahama model in that watt and price range I'm eyeballing, but thought I'd check here first. Thank you for your consideration.
  • What do you mean by "proper"? The correct tool for the job is the one that does what you want. Run the AC plus a bunch of other stuff, a 3000 watt would be the correct tool. Charge the battery a 1000 watt would be the correct tool. Use a toaster or DW's hair dryer a 2000 watt would be correct.
  • Honda, Yamaha, and Champion all make a quiet 2K watt inverter generator and all are priced within your allotted budget. If you do need to run your AC unit in the future all the above can be paired to provide enough watts to do the job.
  • Yes, 2k will do a fine job as long as you don't try to run a space heater or air conditioning. You'll want to limit big loads (like a microwave) to one at a time but otherwise it will work fine.
