A few years ago, GM stopped "requiring" WD hitches in most cases for their 2500HD and 3500HD models. I tow a trailer similar to yours with no sway, no problems, with just a conventional ball mount. Ford and Ram may have different requirements. It sure simplifies the hitching/unhitching process.
