I'm just a weekend camper. I like my short 22 foot TT because it's so easy to hook up and unhook. I can be ready to go in a moments notice. Then when I get to the park I still have my 1/2 ton pickup to use for transportation to go to town and see the sites. My pickup is also my daily driver.
A 5th wheel is too hard to hook up and often requires a 3/4 ton or bigger ( and more expensive) pickup.
A self propelled RV requires more maintenance and money plus it would leave me stuck at the park with no way to get to town and see the sites. Yes, you can pull a car behind one but then you have another vehicle that requires more maintenance and money.
I would say the only con would be if you have a large family and want a larger unit. After you get so big your better off to go to a 5th wheel for there better handling characteristics .
