Both transmissions are still lacking behind the competition. Granted failures in stock form are for all for trannys mentioned are rare. Apples to apples they are all good trucks and all have small pitfalls. Mostly the emissions systems.
Kudos to Ford, they built an inhouse transmission that is very robust, and has a better track record than their engines ahead of it. Good on Ford!
The current Allison 1000 is at it's limits and is most likely the reason for GM's lower HP and Torque settings. That will have to be addressed before that can play in the same numbers league as the other two.
The RAM 68RFE is a OK tranny and a big improvement over the 47/48RE's with only 4 gears, however the Aisin now in the RAMs this the best of all of them period, it out weighs the 68RFE by a hundred pounds. The 68RFE is the only light weight of the four.

Allison At its limits? WHAT!?!? It was used in 4500 Applications at like 17k GVW IIRC. Lets refference the aftermarket world for a minute here. The Allisons Will hold double the stock horsepower with just clutches and a shift kit. The Ford trannys are just flat out unstoppable, while the 68RFE and Aisin both start to get grumpy with tuning that both the Ford and Alli suck up stock without batting an eyelash.... They are all great trannys at stock power levels compared to what was available years back, but as usual, Chrysler is bringing up the rear in the Trans department.
