The white stuff is not calcium. I'm surprised at RoyBell's assertion that Camco's anode rod would be aluminum for a number of reasons, but could be. The white stuff is magnesium hydroxide (or possibly aluminum oxide, if Roy is right) and it is what the rod is supposed to do.
The rod (which as others have noted is due for replacement) is supposed to corrode instead of the water heater tank corroding. Be glad it has, as replacing it is a LOT cheaper than replacing the tank itself.
