This gets mentioned so much and it's really not for everyone. On my 2014 Ram if I went for the 3500 I'd have lost the rear coil springs and had to take bouncy old leaf springs. I think the difference in payload was around 1000# which is nothing I need (nor does the OP currently contemplating a 1/2 ton).
Then, there's the added cost.... sure, it's not much but it is still more money. Then, there's availability. 3500 SRW trucks are scarce on lots compared to 2500 series so you're probably stuck ordering or taking a truck not equipped as you want it. With ordering, you often lose out on the best price plus you have to wait.
I get the idea that having the most payload is nice for future needs and such but I can't ever imagine running out of payload on a 2500 with a TT. My 2500 has 3200# payload.
Sorry poster.... I'm not trying to disparage your remarks. It's more just curious to me how 90% of the time the topic of buying a 2500 series truck comes up someone chimes in with "just get a 3500". It would be like if every time you are buying a 2X4 at Home Depot some guy stops you in the aisle and tells you to buy a 2X6 since it's only $1 more. You don't always NEED a 2X6.
If 2500 series trucks are so inferior why are lots full of them and people buying them like crazy?
