If 2500 series trucks are so inferior why are lots full of them and people buying them like crazy?
Ignorance, at least when it comes to towing an RV. People see 15k tow rating and say good enough. But maybe it has 2200 pounds of payload that is exceeded with an 8k dry 5th wheel and family. What happened to 15k tow rating? How many diesel 3/4 tons pulling RVs have air bags, overload springs, or Timbrens? And not everyone tows an RV with their 3/4 ton diesel. Lots of other truck uses. So that's why I along with many say spend $200-800 more for the 1-ton up front. Until the 2014 Ram 2500 you mentioned, there was little reason to choose 3/4 ton over 1-ton.
